Warhammer 40k - Death Guard Army Painting Progress

Painted Death Guard Foetid Bloat Drone
Finished up painting my Death Guard Foetid Bloat Drone from the Dark Imperium starter set this week. I picked up another set and I'm working on painting up a 2000 point Death Guard army
I also finished up a Lord of Contagion

Painted Death Guard Lord of Contagion

Painted Death Guard Malignant Plaguecaster

I'm really liking the putrid dirty pussy style of these models. The play style is interesting and is different from what I normally play. I've picked up 3x Lord of Contagions and 3x Malignant Plaguecasters for a smite spammy kind of attack. I've also got 40x Poxwalkers and 10x Cultists to go along with it.
I can't wait to get the Death Guard Primarch, Mortarion, and some of the new Death Guard models that have been teased. It's going to be a fun army to play.

Warhammer 40k Army - Ultramarines Painted

Getting close to finishing my Ultramarine army. I've got about 4,500+ points and I'm ready to play! My favorite so far is Roboute Gulliman. He's a beast. I've also ordered another set of the Death Guard half of the Dark Imperium starter set along with an extra Lord of Contagion and Malignant Plagecaster. I think it's going to be a fun swarm army to play.

Space Marines Terminators Ultramarines
Warhammer 40k - Ultramarines

Last night I got a chance to paint up some Terminators and was happy with the outcome. I still need to add some highlights to the base and glue down some grass. This would be a 1,000 point Matched play army. If I get another Dreadnought painted this would be a fully painted 50 Power Point army.

I've never played 40k but I'm pretty competitive when it comes to Warmachine so I'm not sure how the tournament point structure is set. From what I've been reading, 7th Edition was 1,850 points but in the new 8th Edition it will be 2,000 points. I've got about 3,000 points of Space Marines but I'm not sure they work together as a lot of them are expensive models/units.

My goal is to have a fully painted 1000 point / 50 Power Level army by the end of the week (June 25, 2017) and then by the end of July, have a fully painted 2,000 point army.

Warhammer 40k - Marneus Calgar Ultramarines Chapter Master

Warhammer 40k - Marneus Calgar

Just finished stripping and painting up Marneus Calgar. I'm still learning a lot of new paint techniques but I've got another hundred models I can practice on. It's good enough for me to put on the table. I need to also get a Ultramarines transfer to put on the flag.

I also got a chance to work on a Dreadnought and painted him to match the Ultramarines color. I'm still learning how to use the airbrush so I'm having a little trouble. I've got 3 more Dreadnoughts to practice on though so I'm hoping they'll improve.

Repainted Warhammer 40k Space Marines Tactical Squad

Warhammer 40k Space Marines Tactical Squad Painted Warhammer 40k - Space Marines

I spent the week scrubbing and stripping all the paint off my old Warhammer 40k models to prep for the new 8th edition. I wanted to try using an airbrush to paint the armor which turned out well until I tried to do a black wash on top which made it really muddy. What I should have done was just hit the cracks with the wash instead of doing an all over coat.

I'm iffy on the models pictured above and I might just go ahead and strip then AGAIN and start over depending on how my other Space Marines turn out.

Getting Ready for Warhammer 40k 8th Edition: Space Marines - Dark Angels - Grey Knights

Space Marines Land RaiderDark Angels - Land Raider

Over the years I've collected a lot of Warhammer 40k miniatures. Most were from trades where people gave me a bucket of models so I'm not 100% sure what everything is. I'll be slowly updating my blog with pictures so I can have an inventory of them.

I'll be working on stripping and repainting everything when I have time.

Chaos Space Marines - Preparing for 8th Edition Warhammer 40k

chaos space marines heldrake
Chaos Space Marines - Heldrake

I'm starting to prep my Warhammer 40k models in anticipation of the Age of Sigmarification of 8th Edition that's being released on June 17th. I own 400+ Warhammer 40k models and to be honest, I have never played a real full game and probably never will because it sucks.

I'm really excited to see if 8th edition can sway me to the dark side and be another pit that I throw hard earned money into.

I'm working on stripping and repainting them but it's going to be a major undertaking.

I honestly don't even know what models I have so in this blog I'm going to start listing them starting with the Chaos Space Marines:

Guild Ball Neoprene Classic Pitch (Mouse Pad Material)

Guild Ball Neoprene Classic Pitch

For my birthday I decided to invest some money into a Neoprene Guild Ball Pitch. I was debating between the Proving Grounds design and the Classic design and finally decided to go with the classic pitch.

Pros and Cons of the Guild Ball Proving Grounds Pitch

  • Pro: Has a cool design, lots of detail
  • Pro: Has a designated 2'x2' square area for smaller games and demoing
  • Pro: One solid neoprene piece
  • Pro: Models and terrain don't slip around like on the pitch provided in the Kick-Off starter set
  • Con: It's really busy looking
  • Con: If you're playing a full 3'x3' game the 2'x2' square is distracting

Pros and Cons of the Guild Ball Classic Pitch

  • Pro: Full 3'x3' Mat
  • Pro: One solid neoprene piece
  • Pro: Models and terrain don't slip around like on the pitch provided in the Kick-Off starter set
  • Con: It's really boring looking
I decided to go with the Classic Pitch because my plan is to play competitively with Guild Ball and don't need the extra distractions. While I like the look of the Proving Grounds, all of the top competitions are played on the Classic one.

I'm really enjoying the feel of it compared to the double sided one provided in the Guild Ball Kick-Off starter set. The starter kit pitch comes in two pieces and is easily moved when bumped slightly. Also, the models tend to slide around because of the slick surface.

I highly recommend getting a pitch! If you decide to get one, support Dice Wrath and purchase using the links below!!!

Infinity: Yu Jing - Painted Sun Tze

Infinity Yu Jing Sun Tze Infinity - Yu Jing - Sun Tze

I've been on a painting kick the last couple weeks and I decided to strip down some of my old Infinity models and give them some new life. My Yu Jing army used to be green but I've decided to switch to the more traditional orange color. This model is Sun Tze with a Boarding Shotgun.

If you follow the pictures at the top you can see how I painted the model. First I primed it gray and then painted his face. Next I base coated his armor in orange and silver. After that I gave everything a darker color wash and then hit it with some highlights. Tada! It's table top quality, ready to play!

Guild Ball - Painted Greyscales, Angel, Shark and Siren

Fishermen Crew - Greyscales, Angel, Shark, and Siren

My house flooded last Friday and we were forced to stay with the in-laws for a week. While we were there we got hit with an AOE 5 virus and all got sick so I had plenty of time to paint my new models since there was absolutely nothing else to do.

I'm not a horribly good painter but I'm learning new tricks every day and I can see the difference between my old work and my new work. Part of my problem is I'm impatient. My buddy, Rob, who owns Table Ready Terrain is always trying to get me to follow boring steps when all I want to do is slap paint on pewter.

Lately I've been slowing down and following steps instead of rushing to finish the job and I'm happy with the outcome.

Guild Ball has been a really fun game play experience that brings a lot of interesting decisions each turn to the table. I'm pretty close to finishing up my entire Fishermen Guild, I think only need Vet Siren and Tentacles.

Guild Ball - Fishermen - Painted Corsair

guild ball fishermen kraken, sakana, corsair, hag, jac, salt paintedFishermen Corsair List - Kraken, Sakana, Corsair, Hag, Jac, Salt

I love the Corsair model. He's just a fat Middle Eastern-y grumpy pirate dude with a peg leg and a bunch of spears. He's great at controlling the center of the Pitch and dragging unsuspecting enemy models into a pit of harpoon doom. He can also pop his Legendary and give his teammates an added boost to their kick!

He was also really fun to paint since his features are so defined. I plan on doing some battle reports in the future with Corsair and his Fishermen crew so stay tuned!

If you are digging the model and want to help out the Dice Wrath blag make sure follow the Amazon link below if you want to purchase it. It's cheaper than at Miniaturemarket.com or Discountgamesinc.com AND you get free two day shipping!

Guild Ball - Kick Off - Masons - Brewers - Fishermen

Warmachine is kind of in limbo right now for me while they transition into the new Steamroller 2017 rule set so here's my new obsession: GUILD BALL! I'm having a lot of fun with Guild Ball. It's basically fantasy soccer where you kick a ball into a goal but you can also beat each other up with swords and magic. What I really like about it is the theme. Here are some of the painted models I finished this weekend from the Guild Ball Kick Off starter set and a few other models I picked up on the side:

guild ball kick off painted brewers Brewers Plastic Set - Scum, Spigot, Tapper, Stave, Hooper, Friday

The Brewers have a lot of synergy and buffs with each other and deal a whole bunch of damage. They're great for wrecking face and occasionally scoring a few goals.

guild ball kick off painted masons Masons Plastic Set - Marbles, Mallet, Honour, Brick, Harmony, Flint

The Mason's strategy relies on their strong defense and their abilities to counter charge. They're an all comers kind of guild and can have a flexible play style.

guild ball painted fishermen Fishermen - Greyscales, Hag, Jac, Shark, Kraken, Salt, Corsair, Siren, Angel, Sakana

The Fishermen are not about stabbing you with spears or bludgeoning you with their hammers, they want to score goals. They are super mobile and great at sneaking an unexpected shot.

I'm looking forward to playing a few more games and demoing it to some friends to get them into it. If you're interested in starting Guild Ball I suggested you pick up the brand new Guild Ball Kick Off Starter Set which includes 2 full ready to play armies and all the fun bits you need to kick some balls.

Legion of Everblight Warmachine T-Shirt
Here's a Legion of Everblight Shirt I've been working on for a buddy who's going to Kingdomcon. Check out some other Warmachine T-Shirt designers here

This shirt is printed on an American Apparel 100% combed cotton tee. They're a modern cut so they run a little smaller than usual so get a size bigger if you want a looser fit. I carry Small, Medium, Large, XL, 2XL, and 3XL in both Black and Red. Wear this to your next tournament and impress all the girls that won't be there!
COMING SOON! Just need money to burn the screens.
