Space Marines Terminators Ultramarines
Warhammer 40k - Ultramarines

Last night I got a chance to paint up some Terminators and was happy with the outcome. I still need to add some highlights to the base and glue down some grass. This would be a 1,000 point Matched play army. If I get another Dreadnought painted this would be a fully painted 50 Power Point army.

I've never played 40k but I'm pretty competitive when it comes to Warmachine so I'm not sure how the tournament point structure is set. From what I've been reading, 7th Edition was 1,850 points but in the new 8th Edition it will be 2,000 points. I've got about 3,000 points of Space Marines but I'm not sure they work together as a lot of them are expensive models/units.

My goal is to have a fully painted 1000 point / 50 Power Level army by the end of the week (June 25, 2017) and then by the end of July, have a fully painted 2,000 point army.

Warhammer 40k - Marneus Calgar Ultramarines Chapter Master

Just finished stripping and painting up Marneus Calgar. I'm still learning a lot of new paint techniques but I've got another hundred models I can practice on. It's good enough for me to put on the table. I need to also get a Ultramarines transfer to put on the flag.

I also got a chance to work on a Dreadnought and painted him to match the Ultramarines color. I'm still learning how to use the airbrush so I'm having a little trouble. I've got 3 more Dreadnoughts to practice on though so I'm hoping they'll improve.

Repainted Warhammer 40k Space Marines Tactical Squad

Warhammer 40k Space Marines Tactical Squad Painted Warhammer 40k - Space Marines

I spent the week scrubbing and stripping all the paint off my old Warhammer 40k models to prep for the new 8th edition. I wanted to try using an airbrush to paint the armor which turned out well until I tried to do a black wash on top which made it really muddy. What I should have done was just hit the cracks with the wash instead of doing an all over coat.

I'm iffy on the models pictured above and I might just go ahead and strip then AGAIN and start over depending on how my other Space Marines turn out.

Getting Ready for Warhammer 40k 8th Edition: Space Marines - Dark Angels - Grey Knights

Space Marines Land RaiderDark Angels - Land Raider

Over the years I've collected a lot of Warhammer 40k miniatures. Most were from trades where people gave me a bucket of models so I'm not 100% sure what everything is. I'll be slowly updating my blog with pictures so I can have an inventory of them.

I'll be working on stripping and repainting everything when I have time.

Chaos Space Marines - Preparing for 8th Edition Warhammer 40k

Chaos Space Marines - Heldrake

I'm starting to prep my Warhammer 40k models in anticipation of the Age of Sigmarification of 8th Edition that's being released on June 17th. I own 400+ Warhammer 40k models and to be honest, I have never played a real full game and probably never will because it sucks.

I'm really excited to see if 8th edition can sway me to the dark side and be another pit that I throw hard earned money into.

I'm working on stripping and repainting them but it's going to be a major undertaking.

I honestly don't even know what models I have so in this blog I'm going to start listing them starting with the Chaos Space Marines:

Guild Ball Neoprene Classic Pitch (Mouse Pad Material)

Guild Ball Neoprene Classic Pitch

For my birthday I decided to invest some money into a Neoprene Guild Ball Pitch. I was debating between the Proving Grounds design and the Classic design and finally decided to go with the classic pitch.

Pros and Cons of the Guild Ball Proving Grounds Pitch

  • Pro: Has a cool design, lots of detail
  • Pro: Has a designated 2'x2' square area for smaller games and demoing
  • Pro: One solid neoprene piece
  • Pro: Models and terrain don't slip around like on the pitch provided in the Kick-Off starter set
  • Con: It's really busy looking
  • Con: If you're playing a full 3'x3' game the 2'x2' square is distracting

Pros and Cons of the Guild Ball Classic Pitch

  • Pro: Full 3'x3' Mat
  • Pro: One solid neoprene piece
  • Pro: Models and terrain don't slip around like on the pitch provided in the Kick-Off starter set
  • Con: It's really boring looking
I decided to go with the Classic Pitch because my plan is to play competitively with Guild Ball and don't need the extra distractions. While I like the look of the Proving Grounds, all of the top competitions are played on the Classic one.

I'm really enjoying the feel of it compared to the double sided one provided in the Guild Ball Kick-Off starter set. The starter kit pitch comes in two pieces and is easily moved when bumped slightly. Also, the models tend to slide around because of the slick surface.

I highly recommend getting a pitch! If you decide to get one, support Dice Wrath and purchase using the links below!!!
