Warmachine Mini Battle Report - Cryx (Asphyxious 1) vs. Cygnar (Jeremiah Kraye)

Ryan playing his Cryx vs. a rag tag bunch of Cygnar

This was the second game of our Warmachine game night and I had already been berated for how un-fun it was to play against Zerkova 2 so when Austin left, I decided to throw together a mishmash of Cygnar that he had in his cabinet.
Here's today's Lists:

Warcaster: Jeremiah Kraye
Warjack: Stormwall
Warjack: Stormclad
Warjack: Ironclad
Unit: Tempest Blazers
Unit: Long Gunners

Warcaster: Asphyxious 1
Warjack: Kraken
Warjack: Slayer
Warjack: Shrike
Warjack: Cankerwor
Warjack: Deathripper
Warjack: Defiler
Unit: Satyxis Raiders
Unit: Satyxis Raider Sea Witch
Unit: Bile Thralls (Min)
Unit: Long Gunners

Austin just finished painting his Jeremiah Kraye and I've been hearing how horrible he is so I wanted to try him out. The list doesn't have much synergy as I had no clue what Kraye did. I most likely would have brought a strong gun line that would benefit from reposition 5.

The game went horrible for Cygnar. The Tempest Blazers were able to do some work and work on controlling the right most flag but were no match for Parasite, Gaspy's feat of POW 5 damage and a popping Bile Thrall. The Long Gunners got jammed up by 2 Satyxis Raiders and were never able to shoot again. Stormwall couldn't take out the Kraken and was Parasited and destroyed the following turn.

I ran Stormclad into melee with Asphyxious but too a free strike from a Satyxis Raider which rolled thee 6's and took out his right arm which made him useless. Kraye charged and missed a Slayer and didn't get to score because of it. On my final Hail Mary I moved in a fully loaded Kraye with 6 focus into Asphyxious and he only hit once.

People are right. Kraye is absolute garbage and I got to try it out myself. POW 11 gun, 1" POW 13 melee with MAT 6 and no offensive boosts. Pure junk.

Now that I know what he does and if I had more options I would pair him up with some Defenders, Chargers, Hunters, and whatever else shoots and see if I could blow something off the table and reposition into safety. Other than that, worst caster ever.

Austin fairly upset playing against Zerkova 2

I brought Zerkova 2 for game day this week which was a swing in the other direction from the list of Armor Skew I brought last week but never got a chance to play because Austin and Ryan had a 5 hour game. I figured it'd be nice to play an assassination list since it's not normally my play style and it would be something new.

Here's today's Lists:

Warcaster: Zerkova 2
Warcaster Unit: Doomreaver Guards
Warjack: Behemoth
Unit: Greylord Outriders
Unit: Greylord Ternions
Unit: Kayazy Eliminators
Unit: Winter Guard Rifle Corp
Unit Attachments: 3x Rocketeers
Unit: Aiyanna & Holt
Unit Attachments: Valachev
Solo: Kovnik Joe
Solo: Eiryss 1 (accidentally brought Eiryss 2)

Warcaster: Siege
Warcaster Attachment: Squire
Warjack: Stormclad
Warjack: Defender
Warjack: Defender
Warjack: Hunter
Warjack: Hunter
Warjack: Charger
Unit: Storm Knights
Unit Attachment: Storm Knight Officer

Austin and his Cygnar won the roll and chose to go second.

Turn 1: Khador: I move up with Zerkova 2 and cast Telgesh Mark on a Kayazy Eliminator which makes her an Arc Node. I run up my first turn and get into position to pop and feat on turn 2. Austin's Warjacks are densely packed to the left side I move Eiryss 1 to the right flag in case the assassination goes wrong. The Winter Guard Rifle Corps try to the same with center flag but they're mainly a road block for right flag.

Turn 1: Cygnar: Austin moves in on my army. First thing he does is to take both Hunters and uses them to try and kill my Greylord Outriders. He kills 1. He runs up his Sword Knights to try and set the line of battle and then makes a wall of Warjacks to block LOS to Siege when he advances. Siege moves up and boosts a Ground Pounder on the Greylord Outriders and kills another. I'm down to 3.

Turn 2: Khador: I run my 3 Greylord Outriders and Greylord Ternions in position base to base with his guys. I then move Aiyanna & Holt up to see if she can get a Kiss of Lylss on Siege but she's too far. Eiryss claims a flag and the Rifle Corps block a path to her and contest the center flag.

The Kayazy Eliminators run up within 8" and LOS of Siege.

Zerkova 2 activates and casts Occult Whispers which gives all her Friendly Faction Models boosted Magical Attack rolls. She then pops her feat and arcs a Hoarfrost into Siege, boosting it giving her 4 dice to hit. She crits which makes him Stationary (around 72% chance). She cranks the damage roll and he has to use a focus to negate damage. The Greylord Outriders cast their spells next and 2 of them crank it as well and are able to easily kill a stationary Siege. I still had 3x Greylord Ternions that would have casted 3x Pow 12s at him.

Overall Austin was pissed and rightfully so except I have no pity for man who played Kara Sloan his last 8 games. Zerkova is fun but if you know her assassination is coming you can plan for it and she's pretty much a one trick pony.

I think having a Reinholdt would be a good inclusion for the reroll to her Hoarfrost. You're most likely going to connect with 4x D6 but you might want a reroll to shoot for the crit stationary. Unfortunately I do not have any more magic slingers or I would replace the Rifle Corp and Joe and make the list totally super jank.

Austin did not have fun but I sure did.

Crossroads of Courage - Ol' Jeb Scenario

For Game Night we decided to try out the new Crossroads of Courage scenario where you had to escort Ol' Jeb to the mine entrance in your opponent's deployment zone. I had the pleasure of watching Austin (Cygnar) and Ryan (Cryx) play a close 5 hour 75 point game.

Austin played Kara Sloan with 2x Defenders, 2x Hunters, 2x Chargers, 2x Gun Mage Captain Adepts, Trencher Commandos, and Reinholdt. He was hoping to be the Attacker and easily kill Ol' Jeb with her feat turn but unfortunately he randomly was chosen to defend Ol' Jeb.

Ryan played the Witch Coven and brought a sweet Kraken along with 2x Stalkers, 2x Deathrippers, a Shrike, Satyxis Raiders + UA, 2x Pistol Wraiths and a Necrotech.

The board was heavy on terrain so Sloan couldn't get a quick assassination. On her feat turn she crippled the Kraken along with doing some work on the Stalkers.

It was looking grim as the Satyxis Raiders used Feedback to get Kara Sloan to 4 HP. Ol' Jeb was also trapped by a Shrike, a Pistol Wraith, and a Kraken that was closing in. Eventually a Defender was able to take out the Kraken and swing attrition over to Cygnar but it was too late. Cryx had jammed up Ol Jeb and killed everything around him so he couldn't Sucker. Eventually he was knocked down and made Stationary which locked him down for 2x turns. The Witches were able to shoot a spell and kill him for the win.

After that game, Austin and Ryan played another one with Ryan controlling Ol' Jeb. This time Austin feated with Sloan and tried to take out Ol' Jeb but he was able to transfer all the damage to the Satyxis Raiders. Ryan's retaliation was harsh as he moved up with his Kraken and shot a Hail Mary at Sloan on a hill. He needed 13's to hit and got it. He then cranked the damage roll and got her down to 2 HP. Feedback on a Charger took care of the rest.

Crossroads of Courage looks fun. Unfortunately I didn't get a game in because they took 1 hour turns. It was fun to watch though.

Cygnar vs. Khador - Company of Iron - Bunker

Last week we played some more Company of Iron scenarios. I hadn't played pVlad for a while so I decided to bring him. I forgot how nasty Signs & Portents was and how adding a die and dropping the lowest number swings your percentages so much to your favor.

It worked out really well for the Behemoth and the Winter Guard Deathstar but not so much for the Greylord Outriders which tried to flank outside pVlad's control area and went up against the Gun Mages and got owned.

 Setting the line of battle

My pVlad list included a Behmoth, Winter Guard Deathstar, Great Bears, Greylord Outriders and a battle engine. I was actually hoping to play Ryan's Cryx and murderize him but he had car trouble and couldn't make it that day. Austin brought Siege (again) along with a Stormwall and a Defender that was controlled buy a JWC. He also brought a full unit of Gun Mages.

The game went pretty according to plan for me. I was able to use my Outriders to flank his Gun Mages but I didn't get the rolls so they just kept each other busy. I was ab to get the Great Bears in with some protection and they took out the JWC and the defender. I messed something up and Austin was able to get a Stormwall shot on pVlad on Siege's feat which hurt bad but I survived.

After that there wasn't much he could do with S&P Winter Guard Deathstar with Kovnik Joe's For The Motherland. Siege was assassinated. Austin totally ignored the bunker and went for an assassination which was probably a mistake. With Defender and Stormwall he would have been able to possibly take out the DEF 5, ARM 20, 100 HP Bunker in a couple turns.

Skorne vs. Cygnar - Company Of Iron Bunker

I've been getting a little bored with Khador lately so I asked Austin to bring some of his Skorne so I can use them to play against his Cygnar. He also made an awesome Bunker structure for the Company of Iron league.

Austin decided to use Siege with Stormclad and Old Rowdy along with some Sword Knights and Long Gunners. He also brought a min Tempest Blazers unit to sweep the back. Siege is real pain in this scenario because his Ground Pounder can be used while he's inside the Bunker and no one can touch him unless you go around the back entrance.

I went beast heavy with Epic Xerxis (Tiberion, Titan Cannoneer, Titan Gladiator, and Molik Karn) in hopes that they would just smash the bunker (ARM 20 - 100 boxes) before Cygnar could pick them off. I also brought Incindiarii to deal with pesky High DEF troops.

Skorne vs. Cygnar. Company of Iron Bunker Scenario

This was actually the second game we played during the night. I brought the same Skorne list and Austin used Haley 3. The game was pretty much over on turn 2 after the beast got within charge range of the bunker so Austin decided to call it and start over.

There's not much Cygnar in the picture above because they've been methodically wiped out. You can see Siege peeking out of the bunker and one lone Long Gunner left outside the Bunker.

I was able to use all the fun Skorne speed buffs to out threaten Cygnar and just wiped most of them out.

There was a little controversy because it was pretty late and I started to play sloppy. I was attacking with eXerxis against a Tempest Blazer and hit. All I needed was 2 damage to kill it and I accidentally rolled 3 dice. I didn't call the boost and didn't mean to roll 3 dice but Austin made me pay for the boost. It almost cost me the game because I was planning to use the fury to transfer and Austin got eXersis down to 2 health.

I eventually got some charges into the bunker and got it down to 2 life. This time I left 3 fury on eXersis and was able to transfer everything off. The Incindiarii were able to finish the bunker off with some shots.

I kind of like Skorne but they play a little like Khador. I'd rather play something totally different to scratch a play stlye itch.

Warmachine Battle Reports - Video - Cygnar (Nemo 3) vs. Khador (eZerkova) - 50 point Steamroller Battle Report

Advanced Maneuvers Nemo 3 vs. eZerkova

I really want to get into eZerkova but you need Greylord Outriders to make her work and they're expensive and I don't particularly like them. She does look pretty awesome though and gives Khador a good magical ranged assassination.

pKromac vs. eHaley (Post Errata Nerf) - Steamroller 2015 Two Fronts

Circle Orboros vs. Cygnar (50 Points)

Here's the beginning of a quick 50 point game I played against Austin at our office to get me reacquainted with Circle Obroros in time for the Devastation release event in November.

Austin's eHaley List

Warcaster: eHaley
Warjack: Stormwall
Warjack: Thorn
Unit:Boomhowlers (Full Unit)
Unit:Black 13th
Unit:Trenchers (Full Unit)
Solo:Squire
Solo:Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord
Solo:Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator

Mark's pKromac List

Warlock: pKromac
Warbeast: Ghetorix
Warbeast: Warpwolf Stalker
Warbeast: Pureblood Warpwolf
Warbeast: Warpwolf Gorax
Unit: Warpborn Skinwalkers (Full Unit)
Unit Attachment: Warpborn Alpha
Unit: Shifting Stones
Unit Attachment: Stone Keeper
Solo:Lord of the Feast
Solo:Druid Wilder
The game went pretty quick. Austin ran up his army on turn 1 and I sent in my Lord of the Feast to take care of most of his Trenchers. With Warpath I was able to take out Thorn with the Warpwolf Stalker.
After that, I figured he'd feat the next turn so I set up my Shifting Stones so I'd be able to port up Ghetorix. I planned to trade my Warpwolf Stalker for his Stormwall next turn but he ended up trying to go for points and failed to blow up my Fuel Cash.
After he feated I was able to hit with the Warpwolf Stalker and port Ghetorix in to finish off the Stormwall.
Austin refuses to quit and keeps Timebombing my beasts and running away. I settled for winning by scenario after killing everything but eHaley

Battle Report - Mangled Metal Arena FFA - Cygnar vs. Cryx vs. Khador

Hey guys! Today we bring you a Battle Report for a Mangled Metal Arena game scenario that we're play testing. What is Mangled Metal Arena you ask? It's a battlefield that comes to life and tries to destroy you! We've come up with 6 random events that happen once each round after everyone has activated.
  1. The Arena fills up with Shallow Water (Movement cut in half, Jacks Knocked Down have their fire put out)
  2. 3 acid clouds will form in the center of the arena, players will deviate each acid cloud with an additional die for distance (Each cloud will be a standard 3" AoE, but will grow 1" each turn until it reaches 5", after which they will expire
  3. All models within 4" of the Arena walls will be set on fire (This will be a standard fire damage roll that gives cont. fire to models hit)
  4. All models within 4" of the center of the Arena are hit with electricity (Pow 10 with disruption)
  5. 3 clouds will form in the center of the Arena, models that end their turns in the clouds will be stationary for one turn (Freezing rules/damage)
  6. Depending on the number of players participating, place a shredder model at each player's starting location. Shredders will automatically frenzy each round and will continue to do as such until they are destroyed. Shredders can attack each other if no other targets are available.
The winner is the last Warcaster standing!

Let's check out everyone's lists:

Wrath Math - Can Kreoss2 Kill Stormwall?

My hate for Stormwall grows and I've sworn to destroy him as ostentatiously as possible.

When I'm down 4 points in Scenario and need a Hail Mary charge to save me from humiliation I want to know 3 things.

  • Can I One-Shot my target? (Because it's awesome)
  • Is there any chance of me killing my target if I am super lucky?
  • What are my chances of killing on average dice?

I've been having to fight Stormwall a lot recently and I really need to know the math behind destroying it efficiently. So today I ask:

Can Kreoss2 Kill Stormwall?

Wrath Math - Can Kromac Kill Stormwall?

When I'm down 4 points in Scenario and need a Hail Mary charge to save me from humiliation I want to know 3 things.

  • Is there any chance of me killing my target if I am super lucky?

I've been having to fight Stormwall recently and I really need to know the math behind destroying it efficiently. So today I ask:

Can Kromac Kill Stormwall?

Now, I love Kromac. I make weird noises when I play him. My problem is that I think he can do more than he actually can sometimes and I charge him into situations only loaded dice can handle. It's probably not the best idea to attack a Stormwall with Kromac but it's sure fun to try.
