DIY Warmachine Terrain - Mountain Fortress

My father in law is in the middle of building his train table and had some extra pink foam that I was able to snag. For some reason Home Depot is no longer carrying it and is using the compressed foam balls ones that suck for terrain.

I was able to get a new gaming table from a business that was downsizing near my office. They just decided to give everything away so I took the desk in their break room and a computer table.

I wish I had more pictures of the process but now that my son is tall enough to run around and grab things off tables it's become a juggling act of building terrain and making sure he doesn't eat anything.

This was actually a simple project. I messed up the steps because I was just winging it

1. I cut out the mountain part of the terrain from the pink foam
2. Texturized it with some pieces of rock and ripped chunks out with my finger
3. Spray painted everything black
4. Dry brushed it with dark gray, light gray, and white.
5. Did a black wash on top of everything
6. Painted white highlights
7. Decided I would make it a base so I cut something out of wood with a jigsaw
8. I glued the foam to the base and filled cracks with spackle
9. I cut out a door and some surrounding decoration and glued them on.
10. I glued sand and little rocks to the base
11. I spray painted everything black again then dry brushed it with gray and white
12. Did a black wash on top of everything
13. I built a door out of popsicle sticks, painted it, and attached it

Anyway, this was a fun project to create terrain that didn't really add any tactical depth to the game but was more for making the table look cool.

The final touch was using some double sided tape to attach one of my overall winner coins above the door.

DIY Terrain: Gnarly Tree - Circle of Orboros Devastation Objective - Effigy of the Devourer

Hey guys! Here is a quick DIY terrain tutorial on how I made a giant gnarly tree out paper, aluminum foil, and tons of glue.

I tried a couple other ways to make a gnarly tree using real tree branches but it never seemed to look right. I tried using foam as well but it didn't give me the texture I wanted.

I was looking through the kitchen for something I could use and I stumbled upon some Aluminum Foil.

STEP 1: Create the Base & Trunk - For the base, I used an old CD and coated it with Tacky Glue and covered it with sand. I used crunched up paper for the bulk of the tree and then wrapped aluminum foil around it to make the trunk.

STEP 2: Make Branches and Roots - For the branches I just rolled out long and short pieces of aluminum foil and glued them where they would look cool. I then used a hot glue gun to seal all the edges so it wouldn't fall apart.

STEP 3: Coating it with Glue - The tree needed something because the foil had too many sharp edges so I decided to coat the entire thing in Tacky Glue in hopes it would blend everything together. This was a really messy process and took about 10 hours to dry completely.

STEP 4: Prime & Painting - I had some left over spray paint and primed the tree black. After that dried I did some dry brushing of grays and browns to give it color.

Here's a picture with the finished tree. I didn't have any Circle Orboros units at the office so I just took a picture with Ruin.

DIY - Round Battlefield Terrain Tutorial

In my never ending quest to find a way to make 3 Players viable in a tactical miniatures game, I have decided to make a round battlefield that will have 3 equal starting points.

1) The first step is to find a good piece of wood. I purchased some OSB at Home Depot which is actually crappy wood but it's cheap. They're about $9 and they come 4' x 8' which is perfect because you can make two 4' x 4' battlefields with it.

2) This was the slightly tricky part. I put a nail in the exact center of the board, tied a string to it and tied the other end to a Sharpie. I used it as a compass to draw my giant circle. I then cut it out using a jigsaw.

3) After giving the entire surface a good sanding with 80 grit, I mix up some Durham's Rockhard Putty ($8 at Home Depot)

4) Once I got a good consistency for the tan mush I slathered it on the surface of the arena to create some texture. It really helps give it some depth when you paint it.

DIY Battle Bunker Structure Terrain

I'm a person that needs to glue and paint things together. If I had all the money in the world and didn't have to work I'd focus on becoming the next Asian Martha Stewart of miniature war gaming.

My wife and I just had a baby on January 31st 2015, the day before the Super Bowl and when I came home from 3 days of sleep in a chair at the hospital I need to feel "Martha Stewarty" and build things with glue and glitter.

I dug around the house for stuff but couldn't find anything till I remembered that I had precious plastic from an old Cygnar battle box on my shelf. My initial thought was turning it into some well padded dice box so I can throw dice without the fear of them rolling away and choking one of my dogs to death.

After looking at it some more It started to look more like some sort of structure so I decided to go with it.
